Phuket, Thailand

Phuket was the first place in Thailand that I visited.  When I was there I went to an elephant sanctuary which was an excellent experience.  Unfortunately whilst I was in Thailand I witnessed a lot of places where elephants were mistreated, so if you’re wanting to get up close to these wonderful animals I would highly recommend going to a sanctuary.

A place you just have to see if you go there is The Great Buddha of Phuket.  This is a 45 metre-tall white marble statue, it can be seen from anywhere in the southern part of Phuket.  Although popular for tourists visiting the area, this is also a temple with monks, so please remember to dress appropriately and be respectful.  If you’re shorts or skirts are too short they may give you a sarong at the entrance to wear.  To reach the statue there are 94 steps, once you reach the top the views are truly breath-taking.

I also visited Wat Chalong, the largest temple in Phuket.  Again, when visiting, please remember to be respectful and shoes should be removed before entering inside.  These temples are spectacular to look at with so many details.

Phuket made me fall in love with Thailand and is what has made me return to see more of Thailand!
