Normally I would be against waking up at 3 am but I made a special exception for this experience and I am so glad I did. Watching the sunrise in a hot air balloon floating over the outback was worth every second.
After being collected from our hotel we were taken to the take-off spot a short drive away. It was of course still quite dark at this stage. The balloon was filled with air ready for us to get into the basket. Which let me tell you is not an easy task!
As we were floating above the outback we were watching the sunrise and saw the entire outback come alive. There were ample opportunities to take some great photographs. We weren’t the only ones in the air. There was another balloon in the sky meaning I could get a great silhouette photo of it against the sunrise.
The whole experience was so calming and the views were incredibly beautiful. One of my favourite parts of this experience was being able to watch the kangaroos below us. Our pilot took us lower so we could see them better, and we saw a couple of them boxing.
One thing I would recommend is that you take something to cover your head and put your hair up if it is long. Every time the pilot put the fire on it was really hot on my scalp. But apart from that, there is absolutely nothing I would change about this experience.
After the ballooning ride, we had a traditional champagne breakfast. It was so nice after our experience to have a laugh with everyone. However, it did mean most of us were drunk by 9 am!
If you ever get the chance to do this you definitely have to go for it!
